How to Play TraceBlazer

Master the one-stroke puzzle — a deceptively simple concept with infinite depth. This guide covers every rule, mode, and strategy you need to climb the leaderboard.

Quick Start

The goal is simple: draw a single continuous path that travels along every edge of the puzzle graph exactly once — without lifting your finger and without retracing any edge.

1

Pick a starting node

Tap or click any dot (node) on the puzzle to begin your path. Choosing the right start point is often the key to solving the puzzle.

2

Drag through every edge

Slide your finger or move your mouse to trace each line (edge) of the puzzle. Every edge must be used exactly once — no more, no less.

3

Complete the path

Finish at any valid endpoint. When every edge is covered in a single stroke, the puzzle is solved. The game confirms with an animation and records your time.

🧠 Understanding the Puzzle

Nodes and Edges

Every TraceBlazer puzzle is a graph — a network of dots called nodesconnected by lines called edges. Your job is to find an Eulerian path through the graph: a route that traverses every edge exactly once.

This concept comes from a famous 18th-century mathematics problem called the Seven Bridges of Königsberg, solved by Leonhard Euler. TraceBlazer turns this classic puzzle into an interactive challenge you can play anywhere.

Which nodes can you start from?

Not all starting positions lead to a valid solution. A graph has a complete Eulerian path only when it has exactly zero or two nodes with an odd number of edges:

  • Zero odd-degree nodes: Any node can be a valid start — and you'll finish at the same node you started.
  • Two odd-degree nodes: You must start at one and end at the other. Only two valid starting points exist.

Tip: If you're stuck, look for nodes where an odd number of edges meet — those are your mandatory start or end points.

What counts as a mistake?

  • Retracing an edge: Sliding back over an edge you already used is not allowed. The game highlights used edges so you always know where you've been.
  • Lifting your path: You cannot jump from one part of the graph to another. Your path must be one continuous stroke from start to finish.
  • Leaving edges unused: You must cover every single edge. Finishing with edges remaining does not count as a solution.

🎮 Game Modes

C

Classic Mode

Free Play · No Time Limit

Classic Mode is the purest form of TraceBlazer. There is no timer, no pressure — just you and the puzzle. Work through each graph at your own pace, backtrack with the undo button, and experiment with different strategies until you find the solution.

How scoring works

Points are awarded based on the puzzle's difficulty level. Higher levels have more complex graphs and award more points. Solving puzzles advances your difficulty level automatically.

Best for

New players learning the rules, anyone who wants to practise graph reasoning, and puzzle lovers who enjoy thoughtful, unhurried solving.

T

Timebreaker Mode

⏱ Race the Clock

Timebreaker adds a countdown clock to every puzzle. You must trace every edge before time expires. The clock starts the moment you tap your first node, so plan ahead before committing to a path.

How scoring works

Score is based on the puzzle level multiplied by remaining time. Finishing quickly and at higher difficulty levels earns the most points on the leaderboard.

Best for

Players who want a sense of urgency, competitive types who chase high scores, and anyone who enjoys adrenaline-fuelled puzzle solving.

H

Hack Mode

⚡ Extreme · Memory Challenge

Hack Mode is TraceBlazer's most extreme challenge. The puzzle is shown clearly for 3 seconds — then it warps and distorts, obscuring the graph. You must rely on your memory of the graph layout to complete the one-stroke path.

How scoring works

Points are significantly higher than Classic Mode at the same level, reflecting the additional difficulty. Completing a Hack puzzle contributes heavily to your leaderboard rank.

Best for

Expert players who have mastered Classic and Timebreaker, anyone pushing their spatial memory to the limit, and players chasing top leaderboard positions.

D

Daily Challenge

📅 New Puzzle Every Day

A fresh TraceBlazer puzzle drops every day at midnight UTC. Every registered player sees the exact same puzzle, which means your score competes directly against everyone else who played that day.

Streak rewards

Log in and complete the Daily Challenge on consecutive days to build a streak. Streaks of 7, 30, and 100 days unlock special achievements and profile badges visible to all players.

⚔️ Multiplayer Mode

In Multiplayer, two or more players compete on the same puzzle in real time. The player who completes the puzzle fastest wins the round. Multiplayer uses an ELO-based rating system: win and your rating rises; lose and it drops.

Quick Match

Jump straight into a game. The matchmaking system pairs you with a player of similar rating as quickly as possible. Great for a fast competitive fix.

Create / Join a Room

Create a private room and share the code with friends, or browse public rooms to join ongoing games. Room hosts choose the puzzle difficulty before the match starts.

ELO Rating System

Every multiplayer result adjusts your ELO. New players start at 1200. Wins against higher-rated players yield more rating points.

Multiplayer Leaderboard

A dedicated leaderboard ranks players by ELO rating, win count, and win rate. Top players earn a visible rank badge on their profile.

📊 Scoring & Level Progression

How levels work

Each game mode tracks your level independently. When you successfully complete a puzzle at your current level, you advance to the next level, which introduces a more complex graph. Levels increase the number of nodes and edges, and in Timebreaker Mode they also reduce the time per edge. Your level is saved to your account and syncs across the web and mobile apps.

Leaderboard scoring

Your leaderboard score is cumulative across all puzzles you have completed in a mode. Each puzzle contributes points based on:

  • Puzzle difficulty level — higher levels award more base points
  • Completion speed (Timebreaker) — remaining time is multiplied into your score
  • Mode multiplier — Hack Mode awards the highest points per puzzle

Weekly leaderboards reset every Monday at midnight UTC. All-time leaderboards are permanent.

💡 Tips & Strategies

Count the odd-degree nodes first

Before touching the puzzle, count how many nodes have an odd number of edges. Zero means any start works; two means only those two nodes are valid starting points.

Plan a route before drawing

In Timebreaker and Hack modes, spend a second mentally mapping a route before you tap the first node. Starting without a plan wastes precious seconds when you hit a dead end.

Avoid trapping yourself in a sub-graph

The most common mistake is visiting one cluster of nodes repeatedly before finishing adjacent clusters, leaving yourself stranded.

Use the undo button strategically

In Classic Mode, the undo button lets you step back one edge at a time. Use it rather than restarting — often the solution diverges just one or two moves from where you went wrong.

In Hack Mode, memorise structure not detail

During the 3-second preview, focus on the overall shape and which nodes connect to which clusters — not exact positions. The brain retains structure far better than precise coordinates.

Practise Daily Challenges for improvement

The Daily Challenge exposes you to a new graph shape every day. Playing consistently builds your ability to recognise graph patterns quickly, which directly improves your Timebreaker and Hack Mode performance.

Join a Group for competition

Groups let you and your friends post puzzles for each other and track who solves them fastest. Competing against people you know is a great motivator for pushing your personal best.

Watch the leaderboard for inspiration

Top players often find routes through complex graphs that seem counterintuitive. Studying difficult puzzles helps you think about graph navigation differently.

🏆 Achievements & Social Features

Achievements

Unlock achievements by reaching milestones: completing your first puzzle, hitting level 10, winning your first multiplayer match, building a 7-day daily streak, and more. Achievements are displayed on your public profile.

Friends

Add other players as friends to see their scores on the leaderboard, check when they are online, compare your stats head-to-head, and challenge them directly to a multiplayer match.

Groups

Create or join a group to run private challenges and tournaments with a dedicated leaderboard. Group admins can post a puzzle for the group; members race to solve it fastest.
